Waypoint Ventures is thrilled to announce its recent acquisition of the contract rights to develop Microsoft Official Courseware (MOC) and Instructor-Led Training (ILT) from S.R. Technical Services Inc. S.R. Technical Services Inc., founded by Stan Reimer, is a leading content provider of instructor-led MOC for IT professionals and a longtime Waypoint business associate. The formalized collaboration with S.R. Technical, a Microsoft Preferred Vendor, positions Waypoint to assume broad responsibilities in working directly with Microsoft to develop and release the popular IT Pro courseware that publishes in sync with Microsoft software releases.
Reimer, president of S.R. Technical and a preeminent author, trainer, and consultant in Microsoft enterprise-level technologies, says that he chose Waypoint to take on the business because of the company’s demonstrated capabilities.
“In working with Waypoint for more than a decade, I’ve seen that we have a similar mindset and work expectations—a commitment to doing whatever it takes to get the job done and done properly, and delivered on time and on budget,” Reimer said. “Waypoint’s deep project-management skills have been a key benefit of our collaboration, and with its growth in all aspects of content development, Waypoint has the ability and energy to make this transition successful.”
Reimer will continue to partner with Waypoint to ensure a smooth transition. S.R. Technical will continue to develop content and provide technical oversight while also consulting for Waypoint as it interfaces directly with Microsoft. Microsoft ILT—in Windows Server, Exchange Server, Office 365, Skype, and cloud technologies including Azure—is highly regarded by IT professionals seeking certification or wanting to upgrade their skills to better serve their organizations in a dynamic IT-infrastructure environment. The courses S.R. Technical helps produce are taught by Microsoft Certified Trainers (MCTs) throughout the world and consistently earn very high satisfaction ratings from learners, Reimer noted. In an average month, approximately 5,000 learners take the ILT courses.
With the contract acquisition from S.R. Technical, Waypoint now will oversee a content development team of more than 50 subject matter experts, instructional designers, project managers, editors, and technical-support specialists. Meg Olsen, a Waypoint principal and the company’s CFO, is excited about the growth potential that the new business line offers Waypoint. “This acquisition effectively rounds out the Waypoint business model and firmly establishes us as a technical-content development company,” Olsen said.
Olsen noted that Waypoint, founded in 2003, has expanded its menu of services and its role in managing ILT and MOC course development. Additionally, in December, Waypoint brought in Mike McMann to serve as Publisher for the new venture. McMann is a veteran learning professional who formerly developed certification and training materials for Microsoft.
In recent years, Waypoint has assisted several other Microsoft divisions—including IT Showcase, Microsoft Virtual Academy, Microsoft Education, and Microsoft Research—in developing and delivering content ranging from entrepreneurial-skills workshops, to IT Pro technical guides, to video training on artificial intelligence. “Now we have an opportunity to bring this full complement of Waypoint’s talents to bear on our new relationship with World Wide Learning and ILT courseware development,” Olsen said, “It’s going to be fun!”
